Here are some of the most frequently asked questions.
#Do you install stairs in remodels or only new homes?
We install stairs in both new and occupied (remodels) homes.
#What species of wood do you work with?
We work with oak, poplar, maple, and cherry on a regular basis. Other hardwoods are available as limited basis.
#How do I get an estimate?
To receive an estimate, contact one of our offices to arrange a sales call. We will set up an appointment and a sales representative will call you.
#Will I receive the estimate at the end of the sales call?
No. Due to the number of parts, complexity of your stair system, and other factors, we will run the bid at our office. The bidding process takes five to ten working days.
#After I receive my bid and accept the terms, when will my stairs be installed?
Installation depends on our work flow. Generally, it will take anywhere from two to four weeks for us to begin installation.
#How long will installation take?
Each stair is different. Installation may take anywhere from two days to two weeks depending on your home.
#Who removes my existing stair?
We will remove your existing stair and dispose of it for you.
#Will installation of the stair get my house dirty?
Installation of a new stair is a dirty process. While the majority of cutting ill be done outside, some cutting and final sanding must be done inside. The homeowner is responsible for covering furniture and electrical items, closing AC/heating vents and shut off the AC/heat. Our installers will clean the immediate area around the stair of sawdust with a vacuum. Old World Stairs does not provide a cleaning service.
#How will my stairs be stained or painted?
We do not provide a painter to finish your stair. This is a homeowner responsibility.
#After finishing, what if all of my wood does not look the same?
Wood is a natural product and will vary in color and grain. We make every effort to match the wood, but you will have variations. A good painter is the key to a beautifully finished stair.
#How many days after installation do I have to finish my stair?
You should finish your stair as soon as possible after installation. The wood is finally sanded by our installers. Failure to finish the wood within three days could void the material warranty.
